Flying down the Waikato River, dodging trout, trees and traffic cones!
4 of us from Mount Maunganui Underwater Club, joined others from Auckland and Wellington in a bit of a diver gathering!
After a few directions and warnings we set off floating down past the bungee and avoiding the bid eddy. Dropping down to between 6 and 10m, we went with the water flow, cruising up to boulders and at the last minutes ducking round with the water flow! FUN! The river was both fast in shallow sections and fairly slow at the deeper open sections, so plenty of time to get your bearings!
Stopping off at the hot springs 2/3 of the way down, even though it was a hot day, best saved for a winter dive! All the tourists did think it was a bit funny to see these neoprene clad people arrive from the river though!
Eventually we arrived at the camp site to be taken back to our cars! Thanks go to Andy & Jamie from Tech Dive NZ for directions and lifts!
